Prayer Pattern 3
The Prayer of Praise.
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise.” In chapter one we noted in our calling that Paul was set apart for service when the church was “ministering to the Lord and fasting”(Acts 13:2). So much of our ministry time is spent in “ministering to the Lord.” Tell God you love Him. Give Him praise. Praise Him for one of His attributes; His goodness, mercy, patience or holiness. We thank God for what He does; we praise Him for who He is. I have made much use of repeating hymns of praise back to Jesus during this prayer of praise. I cannot imagine a time of extended prayer without a Bible or a Hymnal that matter.
The Prayer of Intercession.
Now that we have been in the place of prayer for some time we are ready to intercede in behalf of others. We are now approaching the throne in behalf of someone else. Here we pray for family members, church members, friends, missionaries, political leaders, as well as those who are lost and those who are sick. One of my greatest joys in my own prayer life across the years has be found in praying for those who have spoken against me.
